Succubus review friv game - no depravity, only sadism
Succubus is a blasphemous, cynical, and deliberately violent ride through hell with a nasty backdrop against which a basically tolerable slasher arena unfolds. We tell in more detail, but briefly and with censorship.
Well, Friv2Online Games Studio does not want to let go of Agony - a failure on all fronts, except, perhaps, a non-standard setting, horror. So they became attached to the underground world of the game that they decided to transfer both the scenery and most of the models to their new creation in the slasher genre.
Spoiler immediately: Unreal Engine 4 has not really been mastered by game developers, but at least they no longer try to mask the ugly sides of the design in impenetrable darkness. Instead, they added as many distracting details as possible and some world destructibility, which sets Succubus apart from their previous work.
This time we play as the demoness Vidia, who is trying to assert her right to the throne of the queen of hell, fighting with the elder demons and their countless minions in the spacious hellish arenas filled with fire, blood and tears of tormented sinners.
The succubus prefers close combat and does not shy away from magic : it throws fireballs, closes itself from oncoming fire with a magic shield, and attracts objects using telekinesis. The demoness can knock back or crush the opponent with her hoof, and instead of jumping, she makes directed dashes to break the distance or avoid the blow.
Similar to DOOM, enemies brought to their deathbed are opened up for brutal, fast, and varied finishes that restore health points to the succubus. The last of the opponents, as a rule, is awarded the most spectacular dismemberment.
After filling the scale of rage, Vidia falls into a combat trance. The demoness throws away her weapon, relying on the natural sharpness of her claws, and time freezes for a moment. This way you can quickly restore most of the vitality and thoroughly thin out the trash.
The demoness spends the time between attacks in her own lair, where she can purchase new weapons and equipment for the souls of demons and mortals she has earned (to effectively collect the latter, you need to kill everything that moves and groans on the cards).
The type of weapon will not change, nor will the special attacks: you simply select the dual blades, sword or scythe with better stats, and the succubus bow will change depending on the outfits you buy. In hell, loose tunics made from the skin of martyrs are now in trend.
In the lair, you can customize the appearance of the demoness and even personalize the shelter, look through the comics and bestiary if you find the pages and the corresponding idols, and at the same time take part in ranked competitions to quickly pass maps on a high level of difficulty (and your name will be inscribed in the overall leaderboard).
The external side of Succubus leaves much to be desired: particles of hair, almost all surfaces reflecting light, fiery flashes and even copious splashes of blood look very primitive, and the animations of faces and movements seem to be assembled by amateurs “on the knee”, which is why even the most spectacular scenes lose their cool. in atmosphere.
The heroine herself, popularly known as the demon of lust and depravity, contrary to my expectations, is saturated not with the absorption of male energy, but exclusively with sadism, and instead of a seductive purr, she got a disgusting croaking voice, which is usually broadcast in films possessed by demons.
If you turn off censorship in the options, having previously downloaded the free DLC for players 18 , nudity will appear in Succubus, but you can hardly call it sexy. But there are a lot of frankly vile scenes here: demons frenziedly raping mortals, mortals feeding demon children with their own feces.
To further replenish her strength, Vidya tears off the jaws and reproductive organs of men nailed to the sacrificial altars, and in pregnant women, causes forced births with a kick and kills women with their own child. How do you like these analogues of first aid kits? Fortunately for the latter, an additional option is provided in the censorship section that disables this painful fruit of the developers' fantasy.
Succubus also has a photo mode, but only for selfies. Players can change the field of view in it, adjust the lighting, contrast and gamma, choose poses for the demoness and put filters for the background. It is noteworthy that the poses are animated, and you are free to make the succubus freeze in the position you need.
In terms of gameplay, Succubus is a solid mid-ranger with interesting challenges and boss fights, a variety of opponents and some sort of weapon selection. Visually, we have another budget project with poor animations, cheap design and a rather dubious implementation of a succubus, which looks more like a template demon lacking charisma than a hellish priestess of lust.
